Death of an Everton Giant

Image

Everton Giant Gordon West has died after a long battle with illness. Gordon, who passed away on Sunday 10th of June, played in a golden era under Harry Catterick and made more than 400 appearances between the posts during which time he collected two championship medals, in ’63 &’70, and a FA Cup winners medal in 1966. In later years Gordon became a great ambassador for the tremendous work of Everton’s former player’s foundation, a great cause which was close to the big man’s heart.

A spokesperson for KEIOC said, “Westy was great value on and off the pitch; an entertaining after dinner speaker, Gordon would often regale the story of how he agreed to settle the argument on who was Everton’s best keeper, himself or Neville Southall; his explanation being that he was best in black and white whilst Neville was best in colour! Goodison will be a sadder place now; our thoughts are obviously with Gordon’s family and close friends”

Gordon West - Evertonian - 1943 – 2012

Season Club Appearances

1960–1962 Blackpool 33

1962–1973 Everton 402

1976–1979 Tranmere Rovers 17
