|Post subject:||Huskisson Dock?|
New rumour from businesses who operate around Huskisson dock is that Peel Ports are in the process of looking at the site build a multi purpose stadium/arena on Huskisson Dock. The dock contains 2 Branch Docks (No. 1 and No.3, No.2 previously being filled in); local businesses are being told to find new locations (including the one I have just returned from a meeting with). The rumour is that Peel will build the stadium and lease it to Everton F.C over a long term fixed period; it will also be used to for conecrts and such to provide competition to Liverpool Echo Arena. The stadium/arena will be closely connected to the Liverpool Waters scheme. The only sticking point seems to be the traffic issue.
Having worked in the area for many years I have heard this rumour quite a bit from residents who live on the other side of Derby Road, however this is the first I've heard of it coming from businesses.
Other non related football stuff that came from discussions inlcuded:- the widening of the Manchester Ship canal to allow larger vessles to travel directly to the rail/road hub in Salford Quays and also the the water turbines for generating power, the idea was takled about years ago but supposibly scrapped, however a site by Garston Docks has been identifed.
Was told a while back about pubs in the area having their leases tied up so none could be extended, a lot of other businesses in the area being told the same, and all for the same reason, stadium. construction by Peel.
that was about 18 months ago, thought it was part of Peel waters development.
Peel wouldn't have any say with regards to businesses and pubs that are not within the dock wall facility, so that may have been issued by the council. There are certainly no pubs down by Huskisson Dock (only the Dominion which has closed). This information came from a company that has a premise located within the dock facility. This company, along with another storage firm, have been told pack up and go has Peel require the land.
The Liverpool Waters scheme will go from Princes Dock (not far from Costco) along to Bramley Dock. Next to Bramley Dock is Sandon Dock, with 2 active Branch Docks, and then Huskisson. Distance between the end of the proposed Liverpool Waters scheme and Huskisson Dock is around 0.5 miles.
It could be a number of things that have prompted Peel into moving companies out, there is the scrap storage dock, if I start to hear things about that going then something is defo on. With planning permission not yet granted for Liverpool Waters it does make me wonder, and unlike the Council or Everton FC, Peel will not be wasting money on something that won't happen.
