Blues plan Edge Lane stadium

Everton's next plan for a new stadium will not be at Goodison Park, according to NSNO sources.

Everton's plans to build a stadium in Kirkby, outside of the city boundaries, were scuppered in November when the enabling development, which would apparently have contributed to the cost of the development, was deemed inappropriate for the area.

The Blues are, however, planning to take that business model and try and use it at Edge Lane - Tesco permitting - a site the club had previously dismissed as unsuitable.

Given that the development at Kirkby was projected to only raise Everton's takings by £6m a year, it will be interesting to see how the business plan has been improved

It should be remembered 82 year old property tycoon, Albert Gubay, thought to be worth £500m, recently signed a deal with Liverpool City Council which should see £200m invested in his Edge Lane site; the deal should see 600,000 sq ft of new shops, a new Victorian-style park and an extension to the Rathbone Hospital. Isle of Man based Mr Gubay’s property holdings on Edge Lane included the Ian Skelly garage and the Travellers Rest pub; he previously offered to plug a forecast £20m black hole in the council’s Capital of Culture budget in return for getting planning permission.
